Kampung Kuala Abai
Situated no more than 20 kilometres away from the famous Kota Belud town, on the island of Borneo, you will find the village of Kampung Kuala Abai, which is famous for its fishing industry. The village rests on the shores of the South China Sea, which makes it a stunning place to visit, even when most of the people go to the village because they need to get a boat to reach the island of Mantanani.
It doesn’t matter if you are waiting for a boat to get to the island of Mantanani or if you are going to Kampung Kuala Abai for the day, you need to know that the locals are very warm and that there is a wide variety of craftwork on offer to buy as well as some of the best dishes you will have ever eaten at some of the local restaurants.
A lot of people get to Kampung Kuala Abai because they are on an organized tour that generally includes a bus trip from the whole of the Sabah state to other areas. Nevertheless, those who are more interested in adventure might go to the village on their own and from there go to the Kota Belud area by bus. The journey doesn’t take longer than half an hour and it’s really inexpensive. It would be a good idea to ask the bus driver about the possible time to take the bus back to the village.
Even when it’s not really common for tourists to spend the night in Kampung Kuala Abai, you can find accommodation if you have a look in the area where the restaurants are. You can also organize boat and fishing trips, which provide great entertainment that will allow you to discover a lot more of the Sabah area than if went on an organised tour.
